Hi and thanks for visiting! Baking for Dave is here. In the story a young girl runs away from home to compete in a bake-off competition. I never say that Iris is on the spectrum or that she has SPD of any kind because I didn't want it to be the focus. I wanted the focus to be the girl with the extraordinary gift to bring people together, who just so happens to connect to the world a little differently than other kids her age. Where other fifteen year-olds may be scrolling through make-up tutorials or funny vines, Iris collects stones. She loves sweet things like her baking, furry pets, and the smooth sounds of 90's era Dave Matthews Band songs. The book focuses on a girl who's not like many others and the fact that that's all right after all. It's as close to my heart as a story could get and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Along with my husband and girls, I live with two giant Newfoundland dogs, an Oscar fish who sulks when he doesn't get enough attention, an army of highly trained hermit crabs, and two wonder cats who think they are ninjas. Though I love some good serious literature as much as any other writer, I still love Star Wars, comic books, and all things magical dragons. Don't even get me started on Stranger Things or Supernatural. ...I run as often as I bake.
I'm currently working on two new projects, a middle-grade book about a magical realm "underneath" and a YA horror novel about a haunted girl's battle against an army of soulless creatures. (Very different than Iris and her cupcakes!) I'll try to keep my readers posted.
In other news, my short story "Three Hearts" will soon be brought to life in a podcast performance. Not sure how the octopus blubs will translate there but looking forward to it all. And I'll be up at the BooksNJ festival Sunday, June 11 signing and sitting on the Women Writing Memoir panel.
*If you like games, as I do, I've made a bit of a treasure hunt. Click on the pictures for surprises and treats.
What better way to get to know me, than to get to know me. Here are a bunch of pictures that will take you to something cool. It may be a story or a link to a favorite book. Maybe it will link you to a dancing cat. You won't know until you start clicking. Have fun!
If you are less inclined to play games there are more straightforward links to essays, stories, interviews, and other books, as well as links to my social media on the next pages.
